Pure Red Cell Aplasia Associated with Benign Thymoma and Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

|
A case of pure red cell aplasia in a 46 year old male, combined with benign thymoma
of spindle cell type, immunoglobulin deficiency, impaired lymphocyte transformation on
PHA stimulation and almost complete absence of normoblasts in bone marrow, is
presented with review of literatures. The patient had the thymoma for 8 years prior to
the diagnosis of pure red cell aplasia and died 6 months after the diagnosis due to the
complication of lung candidiasis and diabetes mellitus.
